The endurance test requires the dog to run 20km at a pace of approximately 10km per hour. It is broken into 3 stages 8km, 6km and 6km. There is a 20-minute rest period between each stage. Before, after, and during each rest period, the dogs undergo a vet check to make sure their heart rate and temperature are within range and that the pads of their feet aren’t worn or injured. Before the start of the run, there is a “willingness test” which is some very simple obedience just to show the dog is prepared to work. The dog must complete the same “Willingness Test” at the completion of the 20km. The handler needs to complete the 20km with the dog and can either run or ride a push bike.
